And apparently those bags have been around for a few years, according to a classmate of mine, but I just started noticing them recently. Funny. I guess I've never been one for the fashion trend world.

I'm a Little Slow
I recently have noticed a fashion trend going on. It seems that all of a sudden, every other woman I see has this style of bag on their shoulder:

I couldn't help wonder what is it about this bag that makes it SO popular! I think the same thing about Coach and Louis Vuitton bags. Why do women spend hundreds of dollars for a purse with a bunch of letters all over it?! It just doesn't compute in my brain. I'm sure others wondered the same about me, but on the other end of the spectrum when I used to wear baggy corduroy pants from thrift stores and boys' skateboard shoes. Why would I spend money on that stuff, right? Actually, someone did wonder something similar about me and asked me once. It was my childhood crush, to be exact. I'll never forget it. We were in high school by this point, and though I would never have his heart, I still had this long-lasting crush on him. That is, until he asked me the question, "Why do you wear guys' shoes?". I don't even remember the answer I gave him. I was kinda embarrassed (duh), and I think I said something like, "Because I just like them. They're comfortable". We kinda laughed about it, but it was then that I knew he would never love me for me. Well, he would never love me, regardless, but I think I learned something from that moment. I remember thinking, if he doesn't like me because I don't wear the "right" shoes, then he's not for me. Anyway, I don't know what that story has to do with the trendy bags I was talking about, but that's where my thoughts took me.

I Wanna Be Like Watts
One of my all time favorite movies is:
produced by the late, and one and only, John Hughes. Most of my all-time favorites were done by that man, and all were made in the 80s. I'm a true 80s kid. In this movie, Watts is my favorite character.
I guess it's because I feel like I can relate to her. No, I wasn't neglected by my parents while in high school, and I only wish I would've learned how to play the drums back then. But I WAS a bit of a tomboy. I had more guy friends than girl friends and felt comfortable as "one of the guys". I always prided myself as the girl that all the dudes liked to hang out with, because I was easy-going or cool or whatever. Maybe that's why I never really blossomed into a "girly girl"--one that accessorizes with jewelry, wears lipstick and high-heel shoes, or wears a skirt anytime besides just for church and weddings. And like Watts, I actually went through a phase in high school of wearing boys' boxers! Ha! I mainly wore the boxers (in addition to underwear) with pants that were too big for me, rather than wearing a belt. Oh man, I had actually forgotten about all this. Watching the movie and now writing has brought it all back! Good times. High school was an interesting time for everyone, right?
To this day, my mom and sisters still give me beauty tips (just last week my mom and sister helped me buy makeup, and I was taught how to apply just the right amount blush, or blush at all, for that matter. ha). I've come a long way since freshman year of high school (...I haven't worn boxers in years!!). I still don't wear belts very often, nor jewelry. But I did just get some sexy new Steve Madden black leather boots with a pretty steep, but chunky, heel! (Don't ask me to wear shoes with a skinny heel, 'cause the second I step down, my ankles wobble like crazy). I'm probably, like, 6'2 in these suckers (not that that makes me more feminine, but maybe like a supermodel, right?;)

Well anyway, I guess I don't wanna be like Watts...I've already been like her. She definitely was more feminine by the end of the movie, crying over a broken heart and admitting to wanting diamond earrings! And she gets the guy! Now I just need to find a nerdy guy to be my best friend and fall in love with him. I'll get to work on that.
The End.

Artistic Weekend-Part 1
Ok, so it's been awhile since my last post. Basically, that translates to school is kicking my trash. I'm reaching midterm point, and THAT translates to lots of writing (which I should be doing now, in fact, instead of posting on this blog). But I guess I'm not that worried. I have till next Thursday to complete one that I'm already half way done with. So yeah, I should be ok. Here's hoping.
This weekend was the first in several weekends that I actually went out and did fun stuff with my friends, and it was full of wonderful art, which is why I am going to break this post into two parts. Last night I did two amazing things. I met up with my friend Jess to visit MOMA (Museum of Modern Art),
which is free on Friday nights. The first and only time I had been to that place was my first time to NYC, back in 2001. It was well overdue. The place was hoppin', with tons of people everywhere, thanks to the "free"-ness of it all. People LOVE free stuff. And not just Americans or Mormons. Ha. The visit was a little hard to enjoy fully because of all the people, but it was good to see some great art. And I was sure glad Jess was there to point out the technical details and stuff to the photography (her specialty) and other art.
After MOMA, we went to see this movie:
And I LOVED it. I want to go see it again, that's how much I loved it. I could see it tonight, THAT'S how much I loved it. I'm just sayin'. L-O-V-E. I was enthralled in the story, in the world of "wild things", the entire time. The acting was phenomenal (where did this little boy come from?!), the scenery/imagery was beautiful, the storyline (that is only like 10 sentences in the children's book) was deep and meaningful (I even choked up a bit). I'm no film critic (I'm fairly easy to entertain), but man, that was good. Oh, and the soundtrack? Forget about it. So stinkin' good. Everyone MUST go see this movie. I really have loved the name Max (short for Maxwell) for some time now. It may just be my first born's given name, girl or boy. I'm claiming it now, just so you know.
